Supply of petrol in cans & bottles banned in these dists

CHENNAI: Vellore Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajesh Kannan on Sunday ordered a ban on the supply of petrol in cans and bottles to prevent incidents of petrol bombings in the Vellore district.

Petrol bombing:

A series of petrol bomb attacks on right-wing establishments across Tamil Nadu has been witnessed since Friday.

• In Chennai, unidentified miscreants hurled petrol bomb (molotov cocktail) at the residence of a RSS functionary in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Chitlapakkam.

• In Coimbatore region alone, seven such incidents were reported, including one near the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) party office on VKK Menon road.

• In Kovaipudur in Coimbatore, unidentified persons had hurled petrol bombs at the residence of an RSS functionary on Friday night, after which security was heightened in the region.

• Petrol bombs were hurled at the shop of a BJP functionary, Senthil Paulraj at Kudaiparaipatti in the Dindigul district on Saturday.

• Kerosene bomb hurled at RSS functionary’s house in Ammapet at 1.45 am on Sunday.

BJP executives, including Tamil Nadu party chief Annamalai, had submitted a petition to DGP Sylendra Babu to provide tight security to them. Heavy police security has been provided to the houses and offices of RSS and BJP functionaries and worshipping places like temples and mosques.

In addition to that, the police are engaged in vehicle inspection, patrolling and monitoring in the main areas of the Vellore district.

Prohibition on supply in bottles:

Notices in this regard were at petrol bunks on Annasalai, Vellore, where it was mentioned that petrol will not be filled in the water bottle as per the order of the police. Due to the restriction, petrol bunks were reported not to be offering petrol in water bottles and some motorists objected to this.

It was reported that motorists had arguments with petrol bunks staff about how they could fill the motorcycle with petrol.

Meanwhile, South Zone IG Asra Garg, who met the media today, said strict action will be taken against those involved in the violent incident. He also insisted that petrol should not be provided in cans at petrol stations. Meanwhile, the Ramanathapuram's district police have banned the supply of petrol in bottles at the petrol bunks in the district.
