CHENNAI: Ayudha Pooja and Deepavali season is round the corner and Aavin has already started receiving bulk orders for special sweets launched this year. To make the sweets more reliable, Aavin has introduced new packaging and screening methods.

“Aavin has introduced a new packing system named Modified Atmospheric Packaging (MAP) which is a semi-automatic packaging machine. In the process, sweets will be placed inside the sweet box and will be sent inside the MAP machine in which the machine will send carbon-di-oxide and nitrogen in a fixed ratio and will seal the box with a thick airtight plastic cover. The new packaging will double the shelf life of sweets. When compared to the normal packaging as the sweets manufactured this year will have a shelf life of around 15 days, but last year it was only seven days. The increased shelf life will make Aavin sweets more preferable and Aavin will get more orders,” said officials at Aavin Dairy Products plant in Ambattur.

Aavin has more than 225 products in its kitty and for the upcoming Deepavali, eight special varieties of sweets were launched by Dairy Minister SM Nasar.

While there is a preconceived notion that Aavin being a government subsidiary will not match the standards of private dairy companies and products, the officials attached to Aavin are working tirelessly to remove the notion and to bring standard products into the market. Aavin, for long, has been working to improve the mechanism of checks and balances in the dairy products and has come out with a new system where the erring officials are held responsible for any mishap.

“After the production process is over the milk and the milk products are segregated into separate batches and samples are taken from every batch for quality testing in laboratories. In case there is a complaint on a product, we will check the batch number and the sample of the batch will be tested. If there is any fault with the sample, action will be taken against the official who is responsible for the batch. We have started to focus more on the quality of the products and we have started to prove that Aavin products are second to none when it comes to quality,” N Subbian, Managing Director of Aavin, told DT Next.

As Subbian said, the products manufacturing plant in Ambattur is maintained clean as all the workers were seen with plastic caps. All the workers were also seen with face masks and except for those working in milk sweets all the staff wear gloves. The workers said that as most machines used for manufacturing dairy products are semi-automatic they are mandated to wear masks, gloves and caps to ensure clean loading of raw materials.
