Construction worker’s daughter wins title at beauty pageant

CHENGALPATTU: In a classic example of how humble origins do not have to be a deterrent to achieve one’s dreams, a construction worker’s daughter from Chengalpattu won the title of ‘Miss Tamil Nadu’ at a recent beauty pageant.

The 20-year-old winner Rakshaya is the daughter of construction worker Manohar residing in Thirukazhukundram. Since she did not want to burden her family in order to achieve her dreams, Rakshaya completed her college and simultaneously took up part time jobs to train for beauty pageants. After she was selected in a district level competition held by Forever Star India in February, she qualified to participate in a state level pageant that was held in Jaipur where she won the title of ‘Miss Tamil Nadu’.

She will now be competing with 750 members in order to qualify for the ‘Miss India’ title that will take place by the end of this year.
