MADURAI: All the instructions issued by the High Court bench in Madurai to ensure proper conduct of Dasara festival at Kulasekarapattinam in Thoothukudi district, which started with the flag hoisting on September 26, are being strictly followed.
As per directives of the court, restrictions were imposed on programmes with obscene dance or song and playing of film songs. Stage programmes could be organised adhering to rules and regulations after getting necessary permission, Thoothukudi SP L Balaji Saravanan said on Wednesday. To enhance surveillance in the festivity site, CCTVs were made operational at Kulasekarapattinam and also in parts of Udangudi. Moreover, temporary check posts have been put up on several locations, he added.
The court also instructed not to permit devotees from carrying spear, sword and ‘soolayutham’ and from wearing a dress inciting communal feeling.
The SP said that to ensure safety of devotees and to step up crime prevention measures, watch towers were being installed at parking lots along the beach and at key gathering places.
He also added that action would be taken against anybody putting up roadside shops. Citing these, the SP sought cooperation from the public for the smooth conduct of the festival.
