Woman kills 2-yr-old son, self over family dispute in Thanjavur

TIRUCHY: A woman committed suicide after murdering her 2-year-old baby boy by offering poison in Thanjavur on Thursday in a family dispute. The couple Johnraj (28) – Malathi (22) has a two-year-old baby boy Darshan. Johnraj who is a habitual drunkard was not going for any work for the past one year and Malathi had obtained a loan from a private firm through the Women Self Help Group. She also had borrowed money from her neighbours. On Thursday, after those who had lent her money started asking Malathi to repay the amount, she had asked her husband Johnraj to settle the money and this prompted a heated argument between the couple. Johnraj had reportedly assaulted her and left the house. A frustrated Malathi took the pesticide used for coconut trees and consumed it after offering it to her child Darshan. However, she screamed for help and neighbours rushed both Malathi and Darshan to Pattukkottai GH. But, both succumbed on the way to the hospital. Later, based on a complaint by Malathi’s father Mahendran, Pattukkottai Taluk police registered a case and are investigating.
