TNPCB issue guidelines for Deepavali celebrations
The State environmental body has urged people to celebrate the festival with firecrackers permitted by the government.
CHENNAI: As the Deepavali festival is around the corner, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has issued guidelines to celebrate the festival without causing environmental degradation.
Here are the following recommendations:
1) Burst crackers that emits low smoke and causes less noise.
2) Prior permission must be sought for gathering as a group to burst crackers from the local authorities.
3) Avoid bursting 'lars' (walas) which could cause noise and smoke for a longer duration.
4) Places in the vicinity of hospitals and worship places should be free of crackers.
5) Crackers shouldn't be burst near shanties and other locations prone to catching fire.
6) Burst eco-friendly crackers as mandated by the government.
