Cambodia jobscam: Two agents held in Tiruchy
The police urged the youngsters to inform NRI Cell if they come across any such agencies.
TIRUCHY: Two agents involved in cheating youngsters offering overseas employment were arrested in Tiruchy in the late hours on Tuesday.
Care Consultancy, an overseas employment agency operating from Tiruchy had advertised for the officials for an online business firm in Cambodia and a few youths who approached the agency had reportedly paid a huge sum for the employment. The agency, instead of employment visas, arranged tourist visas for these youngsters and they went to Cambodia.
However, they were not provided with the promised employment but were asked to involve in online illegal activities and were reportedly tortured there. The youths who realised that they were cheated by the firm, contacted their relatives in India and the officials and through their support, they also approached the Indian Embassy.
The Embassy officials intervened in the issue and a few had returned to their homeland recently.
Based on the information provided by the youngsters who returned to India, the police registered a case against the consultancy and arrested the agents M Shanawas (39) and M Mubarak Ali (26) and later they were lodged in the Central prison. The police urged the youngsters to inform NRI Cell if they come across any such agencies. The police also asked the victims to pass information to nricelltn.dgp@tn.gov.in or at 044-28447701 and the police department would provide proper guidance.
