DMK uses Anti-Hindi stand for its political gain: Annamalai
The DMK has been playing the same card since 1967 as it helped the DMK party to come to power. The party still continues the same whenever there is a political crisis, said Annamalai in a statement.
CHENNAI: Hours after chief minister M K Stalin's letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggesting the Union government to make all 22 languages as official languages, state BJP leader K Annamalai lashed out at the DMK party that it takes up anti-Hindi stand as a weapon whenever it tumbled down in politics.
The DMK has been playing the same card since 1967 as it helped the DMK party to come to power. The party still continues the same whenever there is a political crisis, said Annamalai in a statement.
Ahead of the 1965 elections, the DMK attempted to play the same card, Annamalai said and took solace in social reformist Thanthai Periyar to defend his statement. He cited a statement of Periyar in Viduthalai magazine published during the same period.
He further said that the DMK party and its government had done nothing for the family members of the persons who sacrificed their life during the anti-Hindi protest. He further said the DMK should stop promoting sectionalism.
Pointing out CM Stalin’s letter to the PM over the language row, Annamalai wondered why the CM did not mention that the parliamentary committee on official languages gives importance to all regional languages, including Tamil.
