Top 5 students score 700+ in MBBS/BDS rank list
Under the government quota seats, Thridev Vinayaka S from Madurai, who scored 705 marks in NEET, topped the rank list, followed by M Harini standing second in the State with 702 marks in the examination.
CHENNAI: Health Minister Ma Subramanian released the MBBS/BDS rank list for the academic year 2022-23 on Monday. Under the government quota seats, Thridev Vinayaka S from Madurai who scored 705 marks in NEET, topped the rank list, followed by M Harini with 702 marks in the examination.
The top five students scored 700 plus in the rank list. All the students in the top 10 are from CBSE/SSCE schools and government school students did not make it to the top 10.
Under the 7.5 per cent government school students reservation quota rank list, Devatharshini V from Erode, topped the rank list with a score of 518, followed by Sundarrajan B who scored 503 marks. Other students who scored below 500 marks ranked in the top 10 and the 10th rank student scored 439. The top score in the 7.5 per cent reservation quota rank list has improved as the highest score last year was 514 marks.
A total of 8,225 medical seats are available for MBBS admissions in the State this year. Of this, 773 are for the All India quota, and 75 others are for the wards. As many as 2,150 BDS seats are available for admissions in the State, of which 30 are for the all India quota.
Under the government quota, the State has allotted a total of 6,067 MBBS seats and 1,380 BDS seats.
At least 22,736 students applied for the admissions, and 20,054 applications were found eligible and accepted, including 8,029 male students and 14,024 female students and one transgender student.
For the 7.5 per cent quota seats, 454 students have been allotted for MBBS and 104 for BDS. A total of 2,695 students applied for the government quota seats and 2,674 were eligible, including 764 male candidates and 1,910 female candidates.
Under the management quota, 1,310 MBBS seats and 740 BDS seats are available. At least 13,470 applications were received and 13,272 were found eligible for these seats. Eligible applications were received from 4,758 male candidates, 8,513 female candidates and one transgender candidate.
At least 24,951 total applications were received for MBBS and BDS this year, which was 23,971 last year for government quota. Under the management quota, 14,981 applications were received for MBBS and BDS, which was 14,006 last year.
The first round of counselling will begin on October 19th and is expected to be completed by October 28th. The online counselling will be conducted for special category on October 19th and other categories from October 20. The last date of joining post first round of counselling is November 4.
The second round of counselling is expected from November 7 to November 14 and last date of joining is November 21. The process of admission is to be completed by December 12.
The Health Minister announced that the 558 students who will be given admission in the medical colleges will also be provided with laptops with academic lessons downloaded. He also clarified that the fees for the government medical colleges have not been increased and the structure remains the same.
Erode girl tops MBBS list under 7.5% govt quota
COIMBATORE: An Erode native girl has emerged a topper under the 7.5% quota for government school students in medical admission.
In the MBBS/BDS rank list, V Devadarshini, a student of Kavindapadi Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Erode, has grabbed the top rank by scoring 518/720 in NEET. She hails from ‘Pommanpatti’ panchayat in Kavindapadi.
Her mother, Kodeeswari, the sole breadwinner of the family, is working as an assistant in an ‘anganwadi’ centre. The girl’s father passed away in February this year. Her sister Sushmita is pursuing occupational therapy in a private college in Chennai.
“It was my childhood dream to become a doctor. I was confident of securing a medical seat, but never thought of emerging a topper. I am happy with the results,” she smiled.
Devadarshini is yet to decide on her area of specialisation in medicine. She passed Class 12 in 2020-21 by securing 576/600 marks. “I attempted NEET once. After that, I underwent coaching at a private centre in Namakkal with the financial support of some people,” she recalled.
With appreciation pouring in since morning, Devadarshini expressed her desire to render service to people of her village after she becomes a doctor. She aspires to join Madras Medical College in Chennai.
