TIRUCHY: Ariyalur court on Monday ordered an education agency to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh within 4 weeks for poor service to a student pursuing medical studies in Mauritius. S Ronalt Jesudasan (21), a resident from South Thamaraikulam in Kanniyakumari got admission at Anna Medical College and Research Institute, Mauritius in 2014 through an agent in Chennai on assurance that the college has been accredited by MCI. Jesudasan paid a fee of Rs 11.50 lakh to the agent in Chennai along with his original certificates. When he went to Mauritius, he came to know that the institute was not accredited by the MCI and so he returned to India and approached the Chennai agent for returning the fee and his original certificates. Despite repeated appeals, the agent failed to pay attention. Subsequently, he lodged a complaint with Police Commissioner who directed Adyar police to register a case. However, the police failed to register a case against the agent. Later he approached the Madras High Court and he was given the original certificates but the fee had not been returned. So, he filed a case with the Chennai (South) District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission which directed the Ariyalur Consumer court to take up the case.
