Home Guard volunteer commits suicide

CHENNAI: A 24-year-old man who was the Homeguard in the Thirukalkundram police station committed suicide in his house on Tuesday.

Later in the evening while keeping the body in the freezer box a 47-year-old man died of electrocution.

The deceased Home Guard volunteer was identifed as Robin of Kothimangalam village near Thirukalukundram was working as a home guard at the Thirukalukundram police station.

On Monday since it was weekly off for Robin he was staying in the house. In the night after dinner, Robin was chatting with his parents as usual and later he informed them that he was going to sleep and went to his room. On Tuesday morning since Robin did not come outside for a long time his parents tried knocking on the door and called his mobile but there was no response from him. Later they broke open the door and found Robin hanging from the ceiling using a rope.

On information, the Thirukalukundram police who visited the spot retrieved the body and sent it for post-mortem to the Chengalpattu GH. In the evening the body was brought to the house and while they were keeping the body inside the freezer box. Rajendran (47) of the same locality electrocuted and died on the spot while another man Raja who also suffered electric shock was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. The Thirukalukundram police have registered a case and further inquiry is on.
