Coastal districts of TN to receive mild shower for next 2 days: RMC

CHENNAI: After soaring heat, Chennai experienced a brief drizzle in a few areas, including Tondiarpet, Ekkatuthangal, Arumbakkam, and Thiruvottiyur, on Saturday morning.

The Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) stated that light to moderate rain is likely to continue over coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai and neighboring districts, for the next two days. In addition, the maximum temperature is expected to reduce in the coming days.

As light to moderate easterlies / northeasterlies prevails over the region in the lower tropospheric levels, the coastal and adjoining districts of Tamil Nadu – Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayildathurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Kanniyakumari is expected to receive light to moderate showers for the next 48 hours.

However, the rain will gradually decrease across the state, and dry weather will likely prevail over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal areas from January 10. The center issued mist/ haze warning for the north interior districts of TN, and the haze to prevail in the early morning hours.

With haze likely to be experienced in Chennai city for the next two days, the maximum temperature will reduce by one–two degree Celsius normal. The weather stations in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam will record around 29 degree Celsius and 30 degree Celsius respectively.

A weather blogger commented that the chances of heavy spells during Pongal are very less. But, for the next two weeks, dry weather will be experienced across Tamil Nadu.

The weather department has advised fishermen to not venture into the sea for the next 24 hours. As strong winds from northeasterly/easterly direction with speed reaching 40 kmph -45 kmph are likely to prevail over Gulf of Mannar and Comorin area.
