Delta, south coastal districts to receive rain from Feb 27, says RMC

CHENNAI: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) on Friday has forecast rain for the south coastal and delta districts of Tamil Nadu from February 27 due to a change in wind direction.

The official stated that the maximum temperature in the State is likely to increase further, and isolated places might experience heat convection rain from next month.

“As light to moderate easterlies/northeasterlies prevail over the region in the lower tropospheric levels, several districts in the south coastal and delta districts are likely to get light to moderate rain from Monday. With summer to begin in the next few days, a surge in maximum temperature leads to convection rain in interior districts,” said scientist P Senthamarai Kannan, RMC.

Dry weather prevails over the rest of the State. Due to clear sky and lack of cloud formation, heat spikes during the day. In the evening, the maximum temperature dips to around 30-degree and 21-degree Celsius in the city and neighbouring districts respectively.

The temperature is expected to increase in Tamil Nadu only when the sun rises in the northern hemisphere. In the city, the maximum and minimum temperature is likely to hover around 33-degree and 22-degree Celsius for the next 48 hours.

A weather blogger stated, “Warm days followed by a dip in the temperature at night is expected to continue in northern parts of Tamil Nadu including suburbs of Chennai, as interior places of Peninsular India come under increasing heat during noon influenced by strengthening easterlies.”
