AIADMK district secretaries meeting underway in Chennai

CHENNAI: The AIADMK party on Thursday decided to conduct an election for the General Secretary post within a month.

The decision has been taken at the district secretaries meeting held at the party headquarters.

Party praesidium chairman A Tamil Magan Hussain chaired the meeting, while the party’s de facto leader and Leader of Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami and senior leaders K P Munusamy, Natham R Viswanthan, Dindugal Srinivasan, S P Velumani and district secretaries have participated in the meeting.

Information from a closed door district secretary meeting revealed that election for the GS post should be conducted within a period of one month.

All the district secretaries and representatives of the party units from neighbouring states Karnataka, Puducherry, Kerala and other states have endorsed the decision.

The decision has been taken, keeping the favourable verdict from the Supreme Court, which affirmed the divisional bench of the Madras High Court order to uphold the party’s July 11 general council meeting.

The party had passed resolutions to appoint EPS as interim general secretary for a period of four months and also removed OPS and his supporters from the party primary membership.

The tenured based interim general secretary post ended on November 10, according to the resolution passed on July 11 last year. “The SC order was a temporary victory for us. But we want to seize the opportunity to elect EPS as the next general party to end the ongoing legal tangle with the opposition camp (O Panneerselvam team),” said a party functionary.

They have also decided to take up measures to strengthen the organisational setup and establish booth committees for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls in 2024, said another functionary.
