Class 12 board exam wraps up, corrections to begin on April 10

CHENNAI: The class 12 students across Tamil Nadu wrapped up the board exam for academic year 2023-24 on Monday.

The paper corrections for the exam is to begin on April 10 and results are likely to be announced on May 5.

For the first time after COVID-19 lockdown, the TN government school students appeared for the board exam with a full syllabus.

For the exam as many as 8.51 lakh students had registered, with 4.33 lakh girls, 4.03 lakh boys and one trans gender student.

Speaking about the exam, Punitha, a class 12 student in Ayanavaram said, "One-mark questions in Tamil paper were tough. While 3 marks in both physics and mathematics papers were difficult. We anticipated the chemistry paper to also be difficult as other subjects, however, many of us found it easy, except for 3-mark questions."

Students said overall, the board exam had an average question paper setting.

They also added that even though 15-mark questions were easier to answer, 3-mark questions were tougher.

In the case of the accountancy exam, students seemed rather disappointed that not many mathematical questions were asked, instead most questions were theoretical.

"Considering it was an accountancy paper, I have mostly prepared sums and concentrated less on theory. But, unfortunately, 3-mark questions were mostly theoretical. As the question paper had mostly theory-based questions, there are less chances for centum, "said Ashwini, another class 12 student in Egmore.

Meanwhile, an educationalist questioned the overall notion for setting a tougher question paper, considering students were returning to school and exam pattern after pandemic induced break.

On the other hand, as 50,674 students reporting absent sparked a controversy, the education department is taking all measures to make these students write supplementary papers.

Further, the department has justified that it is normal for 4-5 percent students to report absent for the board exam every year.
