Declare Class 12 exam results after NEET exam, urge govt teachers
The Tamil Nadu government teachers’ association has urged the School Education Department to postpone the date for announcing the board exam results, scheduled on May 5.
CHENNAI: To avoid any possible stress among students before the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) to be held on May 7, the Tamil Nadu government school teachers' association has urged the department to announce the class 12 results after the exam.
The class 12 board exam for the academic year that commenced on March 13 ended on April 3. Following which, the paper correction began on April 10. Subsequently, the results are likely to be announced on May 5.
But, writing to the School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, the teachers' association stated, "As the board exam was only completed recently, TN students who appeared for the exam have less time for preparing NEET, as compared to students appearing from Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) syllabus.
"In such a scenario, students will be focused on preparing for NEET. Hence, announcing the results just two days prior to NEET can cause psychological distress among students and affect the preparations," the statement read.
The association also pointed out that this can result in poor performance in the exam. "I request the minister to publish the results of class 12 board exam on the evening of the NEET exam or the next day, " urged an association member.
"The preparations among students are intense at the moment. Though they have anxiety regarding class 12 marks; announcing the results after NEET will definitely help them keep their focus on NEET, " said a model school teacher in Chennai.
Meanwhile, after the National Testing Agency (NTA) extended the deadline, the NEET registration was closed across India on April 15. The exam is scheduled between 2 pm to 5:20 pm on May 7, across all centres.
In 2022, about 1.42 lakh candidates registered for the exam in TN. Out of which, 1.32 lakh students appeared for the exam and 67,787 students qualified for the exam last year. Of the 1.42 lakh, as many as 17,567 students from State-run schools, including government-aided schools appeared for the exam. Though the registration saw a spike last year, the pass percent for the State dipped to 51.2 percent from 57.4 percent in 2021.
