Russia Today reported that the internet might be down as there is some maintenance work to be carried out during the 48-hour period.

The maintenance work would be carried by the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

According to the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA),  the temporary shutdown is essential for the smooth functioning of the Domain Name System (DNS).

"Some internet users might be affected if their network operators of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have not prepared for this change.  However, this impact can be avoided by enabling the appropriate system security extensions," The CRA further clarified.
