On April 1, microblogging platform had tweeted a message on its official account, saying it was working on the long-awaited "edit" button.
Several users were amused by the tweet while some wondered if it was an April Fools Day joke
When asked if the tweet was a joke, the company said, "We cannot confirm or deny but we may edit our statement later."
Meanwhile, Elon Musk holds a 9.2 percent passive stake in Twitter making him its largest shareholder. Elon Musk has taken a 9% stake in Twitter to become its largest shareholder after raising questions about the social media platform's dedication to free speech.
The ultimate aim of Musk's 73.5 million share purchase worth 3 billion based on the closing price Friday, is not clear. Yet in late March Musk, who has 80 million Twitter followers and is very active on the site, questioned free speech on Twitter and whether the platform is undermining democracy.
His stake in Twitter is considered a passive investment, which means Musk is a long-term investor that's looking to minimise his buying and selling of the shares.
