CHENNAI: Claiming that Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin had sullied the name of Dr BR Ambedkar in his bid to attack TVK president Vijay, party spokesperson Ramesh Srinivasan said that DMK leader's 'cinema news' remark was in bad taste.

He said comparing the book release on the nation's architect of the Constitution to a cinema event is an insult to Dr Amedkar. Responding to journalists, Udhayanidhi had said that he doesn't watch cinema news, referring to the book release event presided over by TVK founder Vijay.

Dubbing the book release event on Ambedkar as 'cinema news' shows his (Udhayanidhi) lack of political understanding and a shocking insult to the legacy of Dr BR Ambedkar, the TVK leader said. "Udhayanidhi's remarks insult Ambedkar's tireless efforts to establish social justice and equality. It is unacceptable for a public representative to belittle an event honouring Ambedkar's principles, which have been the cornerstone of our nation's progress," Ramesh said.

The TVK spokesperson said it was ironic that Udhayanidhi belittled Ambedkar with the 'cinema' remark after he held iron-clad control over the Tamil cinema industry through his and his family members' production companies.

"When Tamil films are released, CM Stalin, deputy CM Udhayanidhi and ministers watch special screenings, eat with YouTubers, and dominate the film industry with their production companies, " he added. He recalled the State's history, citing how the DMK was kept out of power for 10 years after mocking MG Ramachandran (MGR) and Jayalalithaa as a "Koothadi."

The TVK leader warned that the DMK's current mockery of Vijay would lead to a similar outcome in the 2026 elections.

The TVK leader further said that the people of Tamil Nadu will not tolerate such arrogance and will unseat the DMK in the 2026 Assembly elections.
