What inspired you to make Kajarya?
I saw a midwife (who killed female newborns) being interviewed by a rookie journalist. When the midwife said that she is merely the executioner and the fate of these girls was decided long ago, it struck me. We think that this discrimination is far away from us, but that is not true.
How has the reception been so far?
We have had packed houses in Mumbai and other countries where we showcased the film.
You have written a letter to the education minister to add a chapter on gender studies to the curriculum of primary school children. Why?
I think gender studies must be a part of the curriculum because there is so much misinformation about
women. There are sexualised images of women portrayed to the youngsters. I strongly feel the need for youngsters to learn about gender equality at an early age.
