It is the beginning of the year and most of us intend to follow a ‘healthy eating pattern’ (for the first few days, atleast!). Smoothies are perfectly healthy, wholesome meal replacements. They are loaded with fibres and goodness of nuts and seeds and are a great post workout option. Ideally smoothies can be made with whole milk, that provide the good fats to the human body. Fruits smoothies can be an easy way to nourish your body with essential nutrients. The best smoothies are nutrient-dense, provide vitamins and oils necessary for good nutrition. The number of healthy ingredients available for smoothies is practically limitless. 

After your basic fruits and vegetables, you can add an array of the various spices, herbs, superfoods, and other health foods. The possibilities and combinations are endless. When trying to lose or maintain a healthy weight, smoothies should be used as a meal replacement, not an addition. For instance, drink a dairy-based smoothie for breakfast or drink a water-based smoothie as a snack. Getting your kids to eat healthy foods is not always easy. 

Fortunately, most kids love the taste of a creamy smoothie naturally sweetened by fruit or a good sweetener like honey or usual sugar. And they are a great way to soothe your sweet cravings. If you have an urge to have something sweet, smoothie is a healthy and delicious bet! 

Nut milk is catching up in a big way 

The need to discover alternate options to dairy, and the amazing potential of almonds helped us discover almond milk. 

Almond milk or nut milk has lesser calories than the usual milk variety and is immensely nutritious. It can be consumed in natural, unsweetened form or laced with dates to give it a slight sweetness. One can make it a truly addictive drink with dark chocolate or cinnamon and still keep the calorie count very low. They could be had with your morning cereal or just like that, giving your day a super healthy, delicious start. Freshly made almond milk is good for the heart and high in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.

It is also dairy free and a low fat, low calorie super awesome drink. One can go in for variations of it like green nut milk, beet nut milk, carrot nut milk, turmeric nut milk and almond milk with dark chocolate. For all those looking towards turning into vegans, this is a great option. Actually you can make delicious smoothies using nut milk. 

One smoothie which I make using nut milk is by blending it with avocado, apple, pistachio, walnuts and a dash of honey. It really tastes delicious and has a refreshing green colour. Do try out at home.
