I have developed cellulite in my thighs over a period of time. They are visible, when I wear a short skirt. Is there a permanent cure?

S. Vinitha, Nungambakkam

This is a condition in which the skin appears to have areas with underlying fat deposits. Losing weight definitely helps, but 100 per cent cure is not available. Retinol-based creams help to some extent, yet there aren’t any proven results for 100 per cent cure. Treatments involving infra-red light and laser do help to some extent. There are other factors that have to be considered like genes and hormones.

My blood sugar has been under control for two years now. Do I still continue tests regularly or should I assume it will be under control?

Santhanam, Alandur

There is no such thing as assumption when it comes to your health. It is not just about numbers; it is about averting the risks that come with chronic diabetes. Especially, when we carry out HbA1c test. The levels are reflective of blood glucose levels over the past six to eight weeks and do not reflect daily ups and downs of blood glucose. This is an extremely important test and has to be done a little more frequently.
