Fitness Mantra: Maddy’s weight loss didn’t require workout
If an actor has three movies lined up in a year, each one will require him/her to transform into three different characters — if you feel this is easy, think otherwise. One such actor who’s had to dramatically beef up and subsequently shed all the muscle for a role is Madhavan.

From the daunting boxer in Irudhi Suttru, to the cop who chases after villains in Vikram Vedha, he had to shape his body accordingly to the two vastly dissimilar characterisations.
A couple of months ago, he said during an interview, “It is getting tougher every year in terms of trying to reinvent yourself. It more exciting and rewarding without a doubt, but it gets more and more tough for sure.” As important as acting skills are to this hero, appearing fit on screen seems to be equally vital. So, what motivates him to push his fitness boundaries beyond imagination? “If I am not aspirational, if what I am doing does not grab the common man’s attention and he doesn’t respect it, he will not watch it. So, the whole idea is to stay ahead of the group,” he said.
For a person who’s trained quite hard to morph into a ripped police officer, one rarely sees pictures of Madhavan working out in the gym. Well, that’s because he doesn’t! The secret to his fitness is his diet, not spending extensive hours working out. “I’m glad that I could achieve Vikram’s look without any workout — I just followed my own secret diet, which got me such a fantastic result. I do not eat after 6 pm and ensure to have at least a five-and-half-hour gap between each meal,” he revealed. Despite his shoulder injury — while doing pull-ups, Madhavan’s watch snagged on the pull-up bar and caused a bit of fracture in his shoulder area — he bounced back speedily post-surgery and stunned audiences in Breathe. We’ll have to wait to see what his next avatar might be!
