As easy as joining a gym may seem, working out without the proper knowledge in mind — about your own body and the kind of exercise it needs — can lead to disaster and serious injuries.

At the same time, pushing your boundaries and stepping out of your comfort zone might not be such a bad thing either. To help find the balance and bust workout related myths, three personal trainers, Karthik, Prathap and Deepa from a gym in Valsaravakkam share their inputs.
1. Working out every day is bad
Training every day is not a bad thing at all or doesn’t qualify as “over-training.” It actually depends on the intensity of your exercise routine. It is better to mix up workouts and focus on strength on some days, cardio during the others and include a bit of agility-related activities. Hence, it is best to engage in some form of exercise every day.
2. One must starve to lose weight
It’s been proven scientifically that more than exercise, the right diet is what brings about desired results. Eating a healthy and balanced diet depending on your body’s requirements is the correct way to achieve a healthy and fit physique in the long run. Fads or crash diets may help you see quick results but many clients gain back equal or double the amount of weight lost if they modify the diet even a bit.
3. Deadlifts are dangerous
Yes, deadlifts can be very dangerous but only if performed incorrectly or without professional supervision. If done the right way, this can be one of the best full body exercises since it strengthens your upper back, abs, glutes, hamstrings, grip and more.
4. Running is the only form of cardio
This is untrue — exploring different ranges of movement will only help you break out of your comfort zone. There are more ways than running to burn calories; working out with kettlebells, battle ropes and even with barbells and dumbbells form great cardio routines and build strength and mobility.
