I suffer severe back pain in the morning after I wake up. What can be the cause?

-S Jaya, Alwarpet

Two common causes of morning back pain are disc degeneration and inflammatory disorders. While small jerk or injuries can lead to disc degeneration affecting the shape of the spinal discs, not maintaining proper posture while sitting for long hours can also be a responsible factor. Lack of regular exercise and adequate nutrition also aggravates the problem.
