Don’t body shame self, rather love what you have

hour glass figures, svelte and perfect ,six pack abs, toned and muscular macho bodies, perfect hair straightened or coloured, flawless skin with not a wart or pimple or blackhead – these are the things we seem to aspire for and attributes we are brainwashed to chase after – not healthy, not hard-working, not physically capable, strong work-horse bodies .

If you go around doing a spot poll, I am sure you will find that it is only a minuscule minority that arehappy with the bodies they have got.

I think when it comes to body shaming, we are our own worst enemies.!!! We are so cruel to ourselves in the way we analyse and look at our flaws and end up making ourselves miserable.

Just yesterday I read about a plus size woman who posted a photo of herself in a bikini and announced that she was sick and tired of hating her body and that she was going to embrace it cellulite et al from now on. Even those who have near perfect bodies yearn for appreciation and approval from others. By chance if they encounter that one insensitive human being who can make them feel worthless, there is no knowing how thingsmay pan out.

Learn to love yourself warts et al. This body we have is something we are born with and if there is something you can do to change it like eating right or regular exercise to reduce the flab or a bit of weights for toning it or by practising yoga or meditation - by all means do it .But if you cannot correct it without harming yourself, please stop inflicting pain.

Study how you can flatter your most positive attributes and draw attention away from the negative – by clever choice of colours, designs and patterns. Remember you are the best judge as it is only you who knows your body type well.

Focus on the overall personality - hone your communication skills, become a subject expert, earn the reputation of being someone dependable and reliable who can be trusted to do a good job. And strive to be a good human being – kind, compassionate, helpful, empathetic and virtuous. It all adds up.

Every time I scald or burn myself in the kitchen, I realise that beauty is only skin deep. The layer of skin that covers us is ever so fragile and burns so easily that it is not often that it heals when burnt or scalded without leaving a tell-tale mark. Stress, medication, pollution, sun and wrong personal care products can cause untold damage to our bodies among other things. Realise the impermanent nature of it all.

Aim to be fit and healthy and preserve and protect what you have. Of course, you cannot spend hours of your life in a gym so make choices. And learn to love and be grateful for what you have. And never let validation from others bethe only positive reinforcement.
