On ‘World survivors of suicide day’, the Department of Counseling Psychology, Madras School of Social Work has released a report, which reveals shocking details about the causes of suicide.
The department conducted a survey with 100 participants and the results revealed several opinions on suicide. The reasons for suicide mentioned predominantly were societal pressure (18%), depression (23%), hopelessness (32%), rejection (17%), abuse (10%) and they also stated that suicide is used more as a means to escape reality than punishing oneself and others.
Most of the people with suicidal ideations involve in self harming or show signs as a cry to seek help before committing suicide.
It is merely an impulsive decision taken at the spur of the moment when individuals loose balance.
WHO has reported that the mental health scenario in India indicates about 70 million people in a country of 1 billion population are suffering from some form of mental illness.
However, only 10% of them receive psychiatric assistance. It is indispensable to seek help from mental health professionals at the right time to save a life.
