What is Rotashock?
— Vidya R, resident of Mylapore
Rotashock or Rotatripsy is a combination of shock wave lithoplasty and rotablation, that is used to remove calcified hard blocks in the heart valve. The new technology shockwaves use acoustic sonic waves and the principle of lithotripsy is created on extremely low pressures to address the most challenging calcium blocking the heart valve. Pulsatile sonic pressure waves are delivered through a specialised balloon with this intravascular lithotripsy therapy which breaks up and softens calcium, without the risk of major injury to the blood vessel. This simple technique of lithotripsy ensures low risk rates including perforations/dissections unlike conventional techniques.

What advantages do aligners have over braces?
—Shalini S, resident of Villivakkam.
Unlike braces, invisible aligners don’t contain any brackets or metal wires and are hardly noticeable to the public eye as they are made of the most transparent medically approved material. They are a good solution for patients seeking a more discreet orthodontic treatment than conventional braces, as they do not use brackets or wires. Aligners can solve 80 per cent of crooked teeth cases. Customised for each person, the aligners are invisible, affordable and removable. The best thing is that you can eat and drink anything you want, while you wear them. However, people often get confused on handling them.
