Tips to enjoy Deepavali sweets the healthy way
For many of us, Deepavali is an excuse to binge eat our favourite traditional snacks. It is okay to indulge during the festival period.

Nutritionist Divya Sathyaraj shares a few tips to enjoy Deepavali treats without worrying about sugar levels.
1) When buying sweets choose from options that are made with natural sweeteners
2) Have a glass of buttermilk with three amlas and a teaspoon of fenugreek seeds. If amla and fenugreek are taken regularly, one can bring down sugar levels to a large extent
3) A glass of warm water with one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar half hour before lunch and dinner will do wonders. Apple cider vinegar is loaded with vitamins and can control sugar
4) Have a small glass of wheatgrass juice on empty stomach as soon as you wake up
5) Do not let the festival be a reason to skip exercise. Follow your regular exercise regime to stay healthy
6) If you are planning to go out for dinner or a card party eat less through the day but don’t starve yourself. Eat a light snack before going out to avoid binge eating
7) If you are a chocoholic, have dark chocolate instead of regular chocolate
8) Chew on chia seeds or include them in your buttermilk, chia seeds contain a large amount of fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. It helps in giving strength and reducing risk factors for heart disease and diabetes
9) If you have a tulsi plant at home, drink a glass of tulsi water (boil the tulsi leaves in water) before you go to bed.
