Italian senate approves new populist government
Italy’s new populist government won approval from the Senate Tuesday, passing the first of this week’s two tests of power for the coalition.

The alliance between the anti-establishment Five Star Movement and far-right League gained the Senate’s endorsement thanks to 171 votes in favour, 117 against and 25 abstentions.
The coalition will now seek final parliamentary approval from the country’s Chamber of Deputies on Wednesday.
