DT Next bureau comprises a team of reporters, including rookies with a couple of years of experience to veterans with nearly 30 years under their belt, stationed in Chennai and other key districts of Tamil Nadu. The team includes dedicated reporters for each ‘beat’, like Politics, Crime, Courts, School and Higher Education, Health, Environment, Transport, Tourism, Sports, Business, Lifestyle, Entertainment, etc. They follow developments in their beats, cultivate sources who would give them inside information, speak with senior officials to confirm or clarify the information, and also with experts to understand the nuances of each issue before committing the information into a news report. The training that they receive, and the experience that they have accumulated over the years, have taught them the most important lessons of journalism: calibrated optimism, functional scepticism, trusting sources but verifying facts, and, most importantly, publish only news that we trust.
