The title font of Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan was launched on Thursday and went on to trend nationwide. The top of the poster had a tagline that read, ‘Beginning of the golden era’.
There were a few reports earlier that said that Mani Ratnam is currently shooting for the first part of Ponniyin Selvan and will again shoot for the sequel that will release a couple of years later. The confirmation we get from the crew is that the film will release in two parts.
“However, we are filming it in one go. Ponniyin Selvan is something that cannot be narrated in 150 minutes. It is also difficult for any filmmaker to keep the audience engrossed for four to five hours in theatres. Hence, the film will release in two parts in 2021,” a source from the film unit told DT Next.
Talking about the making of the film, the source said, “The film will be hailed for its technical brilliance and will be better than Baahubali franchise and other epic films that we have seen so far. Ponniyin Selvan is not a pan-Indian film.
The makers have decided to make it a film for the international audience,” the source added. The magnum opus, produced by Madras Talkies as well as Lyca, has a star-studded cast of Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Ashwin Kakumanu, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha and Aishwarya Lekshmi.
