Lakshmy Ramakrishnan accuses a mediator of conning her
The filmmaker-actor said that a person called Prem had asked for the hard disk, which had the print of her film House Owner for making dubbed versions of the film.
Chennai
On Tuesday, actor-filmmaker Lakshmy Ramakrishnan in a series of tweets posted screenshots of her conversation with Prem, who claims himself to be a film mediator. In the thread she has also posted that he took away the hard disk of her film House Owner for dubbing and never returned her. Talking to DT Next, Lakshmy revealed, “He was in touch with me for quite some time now and said that he has the remake rights of an English film and wanted me to direct it in Tamil. He was so genuine in his approach and kept following up with me on the progress of my work.”
She said that Prem had also promised to sell her film House Owner in other languages for remake. “It wasn’t a commercially viable venture and I felt selling the film’s rights would compensate the loss to some extent. Meanwhile, Prem said that he has finalised the process and the money would get credited to my account in a day or two and asked for my hard disk. I agreed to give him the hard disk because of the trust he had created. I lost my confidence when he hastily came home for a few seconds and picked up the hard disk from the gate and fled the place. Since then, he hasn’t been picking up my calls or replying to my messages. It is not about the money but the hard work that went into making this film has gone futile. I have also signed the consent for the remake before he took the hard disk away. Everytime I call him, he says that he is in a meeting with Lyca. I hope he changes after this incident. Now people in the industry know who he is and will be cautious in future, ” added Lakshmy.
After Lakshmy’s post, a couple of other people too replied on her thread saying that the same person has cheated them before. When we contacted Prem, he reluctantly said, “I have been busy and I will return her hard disk soon. I don’t know why everyone is creating a lot of fuss about it.”
