In Tamil, the film with the same title has Krishna Kulasekaran and Mahima Nambiar reprising their roles respectively. Talking to DTNext, the director of the film Sathyashivaa of Kazhugu franchisee fame said, “The film is set in the 80s and we found it difficult to find a live location that doesn’t have mobile phone towers and other modern day contraptions. After scouting for locales, we zeroed in on a village called Kattappana in Idukki district. The village was built during the pre-independence era and still looks the same. It is being used for the electricity project by the government of Kerala. So, it was quite difficult to obtain permission. However, we did and shot the film there for 60 days.”
Sathya said that Bell Bottom is a detective thriller, filled with humour elements. “The story revolves around a wannabe detective, who grows up reading detective novels. How he solves a few crimes in his neighbourhood is what Bell Bottom is all about,” added the director. Sathya said that the first look of the film will be unveiled by the makers soon. Produced by H Charles Immanuvel under his banner NH Hari Silver Screens, Sam CS has composed the music.
The film will be remade in Hindi with Akshay Kumar and in Telugu with Nani in lead role.
