Haven’t compromised on Yasodha’s quality: Nasser

It was only a few days ago that Shruti Haasan had launched the trailer of Sripriya’s short film Yasodha, which went on to receive overwhelming response. The trailer looked like a proper cut from a feature film without an iota of quality being compromised. “We shot on a smartphone. Moreover, we haven’t used a tripod or a stick for a steady shot. Every single shot you saw in the trailer and in the film, which will release on Monday was shot without any external support,” begins Sripriya. Nasser joins the conversation and says, “We made it a point to ensure that necessary guidelines were maintained while we shot for this. We shot from our respective houses and ensured that whatever we had discussed sat captured on camera. Sripriya and I haven’t worked together in a film ever before. It is our like-mindedness and passion towards what we do that has created this magic.”

Nasser’s body language and his costumes are something that wouldn’t fail to grab your attention at the very first glimpse. He smiles when we tell him that and he reacts saying , “It is what my character requires. I hadn’t shaved my beard since lockdown and that came in handy. Be it small or large screen, we should do what the character requires and cannot be taken for granted.” Sripriya, who has been in the showbiz for over four decades, has been a part of celluloid evolution starting from the black-and-white movie days. “In the last 45 years I have seen it all. But when I wanted to make a short film with a mobile phone, I was excited. To me, the screen size doesn’t matter. Today we see a movie on our phones. Tomorrow, we might see a movie on a screen the size of a ring on the finger. I would still love to be a part of it.” Though the film is all set to release tomorrow, Sripriya says she hasn’t shown the film to Kamal Haasan yet. “I have told him that I would show him only if I believe that the film has come out well. Rekhs worked on the subtitle and she told me that the film had an impact on her. Yasodha talks about family love and isn’t a dark film or has a sad ending. So, I am confident Kamal sir will like it,” she adds.

Nasser, the proud dad says that his portions were shot by his second son Luthfudeen. “I’m so proud to have been directed by him,” he says. Sripriya says that she was directed by her daughter who is on vacation. “She came from London and is stuck here. She shot my portions and instructed me on how I should emote. Even KB sir hasn’t shouted at me as she did. My husband Rajkumar is the lightman. Apart from that,Yasodha has music by singer Krish and the film has been edited by Ruben. Balaji was the one who gave us the colour grading,” she concludes.
