Despite being on a virtual promotional spree for his Kannada flick French Biriyani, Danish Sait makes time to talk to us in detail about the film. “I am playing an auto driver in this laugh riot, where my passenger is French and I take him across Bengaluru. French Biriyani is a film that is made on a lighter vein. I would say that it has the right dose of humour that we are looking for in times with so much stress around. A little bit of laughter would do us no harm right?” he smiles. The film is produced by Puneeth Rajkumar and his wife Ashwini Puneeth-run PRK Productions and will have its premiere in Amazon Prime on Friday.
“The film is character-driven and has multiple colourful characters to it — all beautiful and lovely to work with,” he adds. Danish also tells us that working as a team is the success formulae of any film. “Unlike a standup comedy or a radio show, a movie isn’t centered around one person. It is a collaborative effort. It isn’t about one person outshining others. A movie script is about several characters shining together and taking the story forward,” he tells us.
Danish also gives us an exclusive bit of inside information from the post-production and says, “I haven’t told this anywhere before. Three weeks ago, I sat down with Panna (Pannaga Bharana) the director of the film and Vasuki the composer and asked them to chop out a major chunk of my introduction scene. When they asked me why I had to do it, I told them that it is not about me and at the same time, I am here to do what it takes for the film to resonate with the audience.” Danish has predominantly been a writer as well for his shows. Talking about being an actor in another writer’s story, he says, “This is a different yet wonderful experience. I had written my dialogues for Humble Politician Nograj but this is fun. I have learned a lot in this process.”
A local icon in Bengaluru, Danish says that auto drivers add so much more to the local flavour. “They are the first person that one would come across as soon as they land in India. When I was shooting for this, I keenly observed their body language and incorporated them into my acting for French Biriyani,” he smiles. Apart from this, Danish reveals that he will have the sequel to Humble Politician Nograj coming up later this year and would also focus on the Indian Premier League in September
