A movie has a longer shelf life on OTT: Rasika Dugal

“I had a good laugh even when I was reading the script of Lootcase. The director of the film Rajesh Krishnan and Kapil Sawant, who has also written the screenplay along with Rajesh, have a good sense of humour. It is like how they talk to each other in their real lives and can resonate with anyone instantly. This is going to be a wonderful laugh riot,” she told DT Next. Rasika plays a character named Lata, the wife of Kunal Khemu who plays Nandan Kumar. “Nandan and Lata share a great chemistry. When I read scripts, I do not look only at the prominence of my character. I look at the story in general and how other characters are well-written as well. That is how I went through the script of Lootcase as well. This came to me at a time when I was looking for something different after my web series Delhi Crime. This was totally different and had the right dose of content I was looking for,” she explained.

 The actress said that having forayed into the digital medium even before its prominence has helped her understand the nuances of the platform. “Movies releasing on OTT in fact have an advantage over theatrical releases. In theatres, the lifespan of a movie is shortlived. They are just a one-weekend wonder in theatres and only chase the box office numbers. That is not the case with OTT release. Even after a week, the audience can still go and watch the film they like to or they hear about. It is more about the content than the numbers which we talk about,” she says.

 Kammatti Paadam with Dulquer Salmaan is Rasika’s only south film till date. However, there have been rumours on her playing the female lead everytime a big project is announced. “Oh is it?” she smiles. “I was never aware of this. And I would love to be a part of south films, especially, Tamil and Malayalam for the kind of films they make. I haven’t been approached for one till date. When I am approached, I will be a part of one,” she concluded. Lootcase will be releasing on Disney+Hotstar.
