Actor Krishna Kulasekaran, recently surprised everyone when it was revealed that he would be playing the villain in Gautham Vasudev Menon’s upcoming directorial Joshua Imai Pol Kaaka.
Chennai
“Gautham Menon’s portrayal of characters are unique. When he approached me to play the antagonist in Joshua, I had no second thoughts. Be it Pandya in Kaakha Kaakha or Amudhan and Ilamaaran in Vettaiyaadu Vilayaadu, they had an equal part to play in the film. They were on a par with their respective heroes. I have played roles with negative shades before, so I was up for this,” he says. Starting his career as a child artiste to playing a hero in films like the Kazhugu franchise or Yaamiruka Bayamey, Krishna says that his ego did not hurt him when was asked to play a villain.
“Why would I have an ego? I am someone who has always experimented with different genres of films. Before this I played the villain to Arjun in Nibunan. An artiste should be open to experiment with different characters too. I would never shy away from doing this in future too. Ego should be used in a positive way and onlywherever necessary. Once, I was asked to dub for another artiste and I turned it down. It is because the voice belongs to me and I wouldn’t lend it for another person,” he explains.
Back to Joshua, the story predominantly takes place in the US. Krishna clarifies that he plays a local thug. “That is another beauty of GVM films. His villains could be from here. They still carry a swag and are cool characters. That is my character in Joshua,” he concludes.
