“Playing Ashok Selvan’s mom in Oh My Kadavule was yet another huge break for me. Though I have had enough experience facing the camera for 20 years, acting is a complete new terrain for me. However, Ashwath the director of Oh My Kadavule calmed my nerves and helped me pull off my character,” she told DT Next. Sujatha had also dubbed for Easwari Rao’s character of Ilavarasi, a police inspector in the film. “Initially, I had the same modulation as I do when I read news. Then SG Charles, the director and I sat down and rehearsed a few times. I am glad that people were able to accept it when they saw Easwari’s character upon the film’s release. I also have Yenni Thuniga with Jai and a few more projects that I started before the lockdown. I am excited to resume shoot for all these films,” added Sujatha.
The anchor-actor said that she doesn’t have qualms in playing mom to heroes and heroines. “No role is lesser than the other as long as an artiste can justify the presence in the film,” she replied. Sujatha had also directed a short film called Manohari, that is based on transgenders. “That is a topic that kept lingering in my mind for a long time. I developed the one-liner in to a story and we shot it. I used to direct plays and this topic is something that had to be discussed. It is about a boy transforming to a transgender and his mother coming to terms with it. I would direct something in future if I feel the message has to be conveyed,” she concluded.
