Her latest release Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors has gone on to become a huge hit.

She has reprised the role of lawyer Nikhat Hussain from the first season and says, “We have narrated a story that hasn’t been told before in the Indian entertainment industry and it is an intense one. Those who have understood the crux of the story, which revolves around a patriarchal society have appreciated it. They said that it has a lot of takeaways. Some said it even gave them nightmares on what women have been facing in front of the judiciary system in our country.”

Anupria says that in the second season, her character of Nikhat has taken the centre stage. “I am thankful to my directors and writer.

“This season has dived into her sensibilities. With the convict not giving a lot of clues about the case, she goes by her instincts. Nikhat has become more important this season. Also, coming from a woman’s perspective is even more overwhelming,” she adds.

However, she denies that it is not only OTT that has become the platform for such strong female characters.

“Movies have been a great pad for strong female characters. The difference I would say is the duration in which the stories are said. In an OTT, you could tell people a story for 10 hours. Whereas in a movie, it has to be crisp as it has to be within 150 minutes. So, the chances of diving deep into a female character in a film are less. Moreover, I believe that the story has to be holistic. All characters have to be panned out well. Even in my real life, I wouldn’t consider my father to be less important than my mother. Likewise, on-screen each character should vibe with one another rather than being a male-centric or a female-centric story,” she concludes.
