PS-1 is out: Mani's film gets rousing response from fans
Fans started to gather at theatres early in the morning along with their families.
CHENNAI: Mani Ratnam's most-anticipated magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' released today in theatres.
Fans were seen celebrating the release of the film at Chennai theatres while a few brought even horses. Trumpets and crackers were seen outside most of the halls.
Fans started to gather at theatres early in the morning along with their families.

The film which is based on the classic Tamil novel by eminent writer Kalki Krishnamurthy of the same name stars Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R Sarath Kumar and many other in prominent roles.
The story, which revolves around the early life of prince Arulmozhi Varman, who later on went on to be known as the great Raja Raja Chozhan, is one of a kind.
AR Rahman is scoring the music for this epic historical and the cinematography is by Ravi Varman. National Award-winning art director Thotta Tharani is in charge of production design while Mani Ratnam's trusted editor Sreekar Prasad is handling its editing.
