What is the need for the federation in Thoraipakkam?

During the times when the Thoraipakkam had houses, the former Panchayat took care of the water and other issues. However, in the past 10 to 15 years, the locality developed exponentially with minimum facilities. There are nine Welfare Associations and we were fighting to improve these facilities. To ensure collective development, we have formed the federation a month ago and steps have been taken to register it.

What is the first issue that the federation has taken up?

We have been demanding the government to remove toll-plaza functions on Thoraipakkam – Pallavaram Radial Road. When the toll plaza was set up, there were not many houses in the locality. Now, the area is developed. To avoid toll plaza, many motorists take detour through our residential area which poses danger to us. Due to this, we suffer on a long- term basis. We will continue our protest to remove the toll-plaza.

What are the common problems that are to be addressed?

Laying of drinking water pipes were stopped midway and now we are meeting our water needs from the private water tankers. Once we remove the toll-plaza, we will take up the water issue.
