DT Impact: DP Nagar residents get solution for garbage woes
A garbage bin was recently installed on one of the streets of Dhandayudhapani Nagar in Kotturpuram. It has been placed outside a corporation park, finally putting an end to the garbage-related woes of the residents in the locality.

“After months of walking nearly a half a kilometre to get rid of trash, we’re now able to use this bin,” said Mariammal, a house help working in one of the homes. A collection vehicle comes once in two days to empty the dumpster, thereby reducing the stench and stray animals from knocking it over.
It would be ideal if the collection was more frequent, felt S Krishnan, the secretary of an apartment association in DP Nagar 1st street. “Since there are more than 50 residences in our area – including independent houses and apartments – the bin starts to overflow on some days. If it is cleared every day, this problem can be solved,” he said.
Earlier this month, DT Next had reported that residents complained they had grown tired of complaining to the authorities about the lack of garbage bins in the area. What was once a clean and green locality had been ruined by piles of trash being dumped in the street corners, said some of them. They are now satisfied that the garbage menace has been resolved to an extent by the municipality.
