Slice Of Life: ‘I wish to become an advocate and make my parents proud’
Every person has a story to share. This column puts the spotlight on the people of Chennai, faces we see but rarely interact with — giving a glimpse into their struggle.
Chennai
I had completed Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a private college in Tiruvarur in 2012 after completed Class 10 from a government school. I have two siblings -- a brother and a sister. While my sister is married, my brother is a call taxi driver. My father is a woodcutter. As he could not afford to pay my fees, I had no other option but discontinue my education. After that, I came to Chennai and started working as a caterer with a relative. However, I found the job very difficult and was looking for a better job. In 2017, I joined a pizza outlet in Perungalathur and I have been working there since then. I work every day, from morning to night, and stay at a house provided by my shop owner. I aspire to become an advocate. With the money that I saved from my meagre salary, I joined a college again. This time, I opted for BA in history. I am doing first-year at a private institute in Chromepet through correspondence. I have plans to study law after completing this course. I want to join a reputed college in the city. I have dreamt of becoming an advocate since my childhood. Studying law has become my passion. I even love watching movies with advocated in the lead role. I try not to spend on anything unnecessary. My employer has given me a place to stay and gives me food. So most of my expenditures are taken care of. I send a part of my salary to my father as he is in need and I would like to help him as much as possible. And I save the rest for my education. I believe that I would become an advocate one day and make my parents proud.
