Reporter’s diary: This MLA and his lectures are always there for voters

 But not at Egmore.There, all that the residents need to do to catch hold of their MLA, KS Ravichandran, is to visit a particular local saloon.

This MLA who regularly visits the parlour in his constituency freely interacts with the youngsters, but it comes with a catch – they would also have to endure the moral classes he doles out.

Recently, when this reporter was witness to one of the sermon sessions at the saloon. The MLA took special note of youngsters visiting the place seeking fancy haircuts. “Why don’t you focus more on your studies than hairstyle,” he asked many of them.

The MLA was also found mocking a school student, asking him why the principal of his school failed to check students’ haircut. “See the colour of your hair! It looks like a half-burnt house. Such dyes are bad for the hair, and is also a waste of your father’s hard-earned money,” Ravichandran told one of them, leading to an embarrassing moment for the hairstylist who was recommending a golden red dye for another young customer.

When he saw a customer chewing tobacco, the MLA reminded him that the State had banned gutkha. “Where are you getting such stuff from,” he asked the person, much to the discomfort of the saloon owner.

Sensing that his customers are being bullied by the legislator, the hairstylist gave him a quick special haircut to ensure that he left the parlour before dishing out more lectures on moral science.
