Slice of Life: ‘People of Chennai are very loving, don’t want to leave city’

Sivaraj (21), Paani poori shop staff

    Chennai

I am from Bihar. I have studied up to Class 11 and had to quit after that due to personal problems. I have four siblings and they are all working as chat shops in Bihar. My father is a carpenter. I always liked Chennai. I came here three years ago and started working at a sweet shop in Palavanthangal. I worked there for two years. Later, I quit that job as it did not satisfy me.

Then, I came to Perungalathur a year ago and started to work in a paani poori shop. I love this job. The owner of the shop provides food three times a day and also gave me a place to stay. I work from 6 am to10 am and 4 pm to 9 pm. I work even on Sundays. I save whatever I get and send it to my parents. I also keep aside a little for myself so that I can achieve my dreams.

I am ready to work hard until I achieve my dreams. I want to build a house in the city and also buy a vehicle. Chennai is a good place and I feel the people here are very loving. I have no plans to leave the city.
