Reporter’S Diary: Tansacs officials in a fix over fund allocation data
The Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society (Tansacs) seems to be in a state of confusion over keeping records of the funds received from the government and its utilisation.
Chennai
In a recent communication over various projects on AIDS control with this reporter, the officials of the authority provided information and statistics on the total fund allocation and its utilisation.
However, when the reporter contacted a senior official for a response, the numbers provided by him were different.
When confronted over the disparity, the official disagreed with the numbers stating that the information provided by the junior staff was not correct and needed to be verified. This was not the first time that the senior official of Tansacs responded like this to the information provided by his subordinates.
In previous instances, when similar information on one of the projects of Tansacs was sourced through RTI by this scribe, the official claimed that the figures must have been wrongly recorded while responding to the RTI petition and assured that he would verify the numbers. But, he never responded again. Such repeated disparities indicate that the AIDS control society needs a better system to maintain records or better coordination among the personnel.
