Slice of Life: ‘I am preparing for govt exams while running a vegetable stall’
Every person has a story to share. This column puts the spotlight on the people of Chennai, faces we see but rarely interact with — giving a glimpse into their struggle.
Chennai
I am from Tambaram. After completing Class 10, I joined for a diploma. Unfortunately, I had to drop out after my father died in 2015. I had to face many challenges in life as I am affected by dwarfism. My father was running a vegetable stall at Tambaram market and after his death, I began to take care of the stall. I have a younger brother and he is working as a cargo supervisor at Chennai airport. I open the stall at 7.30 am every day and close it at 10 pm only, even on Sundays. Apart from vegetables, I also sell fruits. My mother supports me in the business. I was very sad to drop out of college, but I had to do it for my family. While taking care of the shop, I am preparing for government examinations, too. I have brought books to prepare for the same and use all of my free time to study. Though I am trying for jobs at private companies also, I wish for a government job.
