Slice Of Life: ‘Water scarcity may force my family to move back to village’

I came to the city in my early twenties. I discovered that juice shops have business in Chennai for most of the part of the year and that is how I decided to open a shop. I belong to Sivagangai district and I studied till Class 9 at a government school in my village. 

As job opportunities at the village were not great, I helped my family at farming for a few years and then came to Chennai in search of a job. I also opened a shop in my native but earnings from it were not sufficient. I later got married and my wife and two children also moved to the city where we have our own house now in Villivakkam. I rented a shop to open the shop and business started growing gradually. 

However, water scarcity has been a major issue for the past few years in the city. When there is a scarcity of drinking water, my work is severely hit and I have to spend a lot of money on buying water for daily use. Though Chennai proved more profitable for me when compared to my earnings in the native, these issues might make us go back there. However, I like the city and have well adapted to this place.
