Slice of Life: ‘Passionate about selling fresh farm produce’

I am originally from Panruti. I studied till Class 10 and after that, I started farming at our land with my father. We cultivate guava on our farm. I got married and I have two school-going children. I love farming but no one is giving it the attention it deserves. As the profit from farming alone was not enough to run the household, I decided the sell the produce myself. That is how I started a roadside stall at Perungalathur. I chose Perungalathur to set up the stall as the people are very nice here and also because there is no problem of mamool collection here. I stay in a rented house for three days a week and return to my farm after selling guava. I bring fresh guavas directly from the farm and my customers love it. I often get calls enquiring hen I will open the shop next. Though I tried to open shops at places like Guduvanchery and Vandalur, it didn’t suit me. I come to Perungalathur every Saturday and go back only after emptying the sack of guavas. My father continues to farm. This job satisfies me.
